Installation of the President of LCMS Synod

The presiding minister takes the right hand of the president-elect and says:

N., I install you as president of The Lutheran Church— Missouri Synod in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

The presiding minister vests the newly installed with a pectoral cross, saying:

Receive this cross as the emblem of the office to which you have been called and as a reminder of Him whom you serve.

The presiding minister presents the newly installed with the books whereby he is to administer

the Synod.

As he presents the Bible, he says:

Receive the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, the Word of God, “which is the only true norm according to which all teachers and teachings are to be judged and evaluated.”

As he presents the Book of Concord, he says:

Receive the Book of Concord, the Confessions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, which are in accord with the Word of God and bear witness to the truth of the Gospel.

As he presents the church body’s Handbook, he says:

Receive the Handbook of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod containing the Constitution and Bylaws by which this church is governed.

The newly installed kneels for prayer.

Let us pray. Almighty God, heavenly Father, grant to Your servant N. Your Holy Spirit that he may faithfully perform the duties of his office to the glory of Your name and for the well-being of Your people; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Amen.

The congregation prays the Lord’s Prayer as the ministers lay on hands.

The presiding minister blesses the newly installed president.

Go in peace and joy. The almighty and most merciful God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be with you, and bless and strengthen you for faithful service in His name.
